Step 1 of 6

First, how to reach you

Six short sections and about twelve minutes. We want to provide the best experience for both faculty and students. Therefore, we prioritize understanding how you teach because a lesson should leave students with the sense of growth, curiosity, and the desire to keep learning. The best way to match you with the right students is to understand how you teach.

You can freely move between sections. Your answers will be saved while this tab remains open.

Your name and email

Where you're based

Start typing a ZIP code or a town and we'll fill in the rest. We teach in the New York metro area, and online anywhere in the US.

    Working with us

If you’re unsure, select ‘Not sure’ and we’ll clarify it with you.

Are you legally permitted to work as an independent contractor in the US?

    Step 2 of 6

    What you play

    Your primary instrument or voice

How long have you been teaching?
      Other instruments you'd teach (optional)

You can add as many as you like

Which languages can you teach in?

      Step 3 of 6

      Where you've taught and trained

"Independent" is an answer we're glad to read, and for many of the best teachers it's the whole list.

      Your CV or resume

PDF or Word, up to 10 MB. A plain list is all we need.

      Places you've taught

      Formal training (optional)

Some of the finest teachers we know have none at all.

      Links (optional)

A website, a teaching page, a profile, a press piece. One per line.

      Step 4 of 6

We'd like to hear you play

A phone camera in a practice room is enough. We are listening for the musician behind the sound.

      A performance

YouTube, Vimeo, or a cloud link. Unlisted is fine but please just check it opens for someone who isn't signed in as you.

Piece, when it was recorded, the context. A sentence is plenty.

Some instructors like to show ensemble playing or a different style.

      Permission to watch

We won't publish these, share them outside the Institute, or use them for anything else. If you join us and we'd like to use your material publicly, we'll ask you separately.

      Step 5 of 6

      Who you teach best

There is no preferred answer here. An honest, specific answer is far more valuable to us.

      The ages you teach comfortably

Drag both ends to the range that's genuinely yours.

      The levels you teach

What are you best at helping students achieve?

Which styles and repertoire do you teach?

Students you'd rather we didn't send you

Every instructor has areas where they feel most at home, as well as areas where another teacher may be better suited to a particular student. Sharing those honestly helps us create the right connections between students and instructors, so every student can learn from the person who can bring out their best.

I'd rather not be matched with (optional)

Two things in your own words

A short paragraph about how the lesson actually goes.

This tells us more than almost anything else on the form.

      Step 6 of 6

      How you'd like to work

The practical side. Tell us how you genuinely want to work—not what you think we want to hear.

Which of these would you teach?

Pick any that appeal. You're not committing to anything here.

How far would you travel for a lesson?

How much would you like to teach?
What do you charge now, if you teach independently? (optional)

Compensation & expectations. We ask about your expectations to better understand the professional context of your work and to ensure that our compensation structure remains fair, transparent, and aligned with the experience and expertise of our faculty.

      When could you start?

      When are you generally free?

Rough is acceptable. We’ll discuss the specifics together. Drag across the grid to fill multiple cells at once.

Tap a day name or a time of day to select the whole row or column.

Two things about how we work

We’d rather you knew now than after you’ve spent time with us. We’re sharing these openly so you can decide whether they’re the right fit for you.

We match students to instructors ourselves

Based on teaching style and what the student is looking for, rather than having students browse profiles and pick.

      We set lesson prices centrally

Instructors are paid an agreed rate per lesson rather than setting and collecting their own prices.

How did you hear about us? (optional)

      Before you send this

      How we handle your information

We'll use what you've shared to review your application and, if we go ahead together, to match you with students. We keep it secure, we don't sell it, and we don't share it outside the Institute. If your application doesn't go ahead we'll keep your details for 12 months in case something suitable comes up — and you can ask us to delete them at any time by emailing privacy@parsmusic.us. The full details are in our privacy notice.

      What happens next

Every application is read in full by someone at the Institute, and you'll hear from us within 10 working days either way. If we'd like to take things further, we'll invite you to a video conversation. There's a final background check before anyone starts teaching, and we'll explain that properly at the time.

Your answers stay in this tab until you send.

      Thank you, that's everything

We read every application ourselves, so it may take a little while. You'll hear from us within 10 working days whichever way it goes.

We've sent a confirmation to your email address. If anything changes in the meantime, or you'd like to add something, reply to that message.
