Privacy notice
How we handle your information.
This site exists so instructors can apply to teach with Pars Music Institute. This notice explains what we collect when you do, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to have it removed.
Who we are
Pars Music Institute (“we”, “us”) runs parsmusic.us. For anything to do with your information, write to privacy@parsmusic.us.
What we collect
What you give us in the application
- Your name, email address, phone number, and the city, state and ZIP code you teach from.
- Whether you have the right to work in the United States.
- Your instruments, languages, teaching history, training, and the students and styles you teach.
- Links to performance videos and any other links you add. We store the links, not the videos.
- Your CV, if you upload one.
- Your written answers, availability, preferred teaching formats, and anything you tell us about rates or policies.
What is collected automatically
- Your IP address and browser type, used to protect the form from spam and abuse. We keep a one-way scrambled version alongside your application, and the plain address in our security logs.
- One small cookie that stops other websites from submitting the form in your name. It contains no personal information and expires within two hours.
We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don’t track you across other sites.
While you fill in the form, your answers are kept in your browser tab so a refresh doesn’t lose them. They are erased when you close the tab, and they never leave your device until you press send.
How we use it
- To read and assess your application, and to contact you about it.
- If we go ahead together, to match you with students suited to how you teach.
- To keep the form working and free of spam.
When you submit, we check that your email address can receive mail and isn’t from a temporary-inbox service, and we run automatic checks for signs of spam. These checks can stop a submission going through or mark it for a closer look. They never decide an application. A person at the Institute reads every one.
Who can see it
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it outside the Institute. Within the Institute, only staff who review applications can open it, each signing in with a password and a second verification step, and every time an application or CV is opened it is recorded.
A few services are involved in running the site:
- Our web host stores the site and your application on its servers. Your application and CV are encrypted before they are stored, so the host holds them in a form it cannot read.
- Google Fonts supplies the typeface, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
- Zippopotam.us fills in your city and state when you type a ZIP code. It receives the ZIP code and your IP address.
If you reach the final stage, the background check is a separate step with its own disclosure and your written authorisation. Nothing is run without your consent.
We may disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
If your application doesn’t go ahead, we keep it for 12 months in case something suitable comes up, and then delete it, including your CV. If we go ahead together, we keep what we need for as long as you teach with us, as set out in the Instructor Services Agreement. You can ask us to delete your application at any time before either of those.
Your choices
Whatever state you live in, you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you, and send you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your application and CV.
Email privacy@parsmusic.us from the address you applied with. We’ll reply as soon as we can, and within 45 days. There’s no charge, and asking won’t affect how your application is treated.
How we protect it
The site only works over an encrypted connection. Your application and CV are encrypted with AES-256 before they are stored, and the keys are kept apart from the data. Access is limited to named staff and logged. No system is perfectly secure, but if something ever went wrong in a way that affected your information, we would tell you as the law requires.
Age
This site is for adults applying to teach. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this notice we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll tell you before it takes effect.
